What do I want for Valentine's Day?

People have asked me that, and my answer has been simple. My answer is always the same. I don't want anything but your smile. The sweet, hypnotic smile that commands attention from the heavens. I don't want fame, I don't want fortune, or anything else that comes with my career. I only want you, and your infinite happiness. I want to know your deadlines are being met. I want to know you're well-fed, warm and comfortable.

I want to live in, breathe in, take in your happiness.

If you need room, I'll give you room. I know the novel you're working on is your biggest novel yet. You need your space, and I'll use my space to work on my lyrics. I miss you, but I'll be all right. As long as you're able to get your book done, I'll be fine. So I hope you enjoy your stay in the pretty Bellagio. You deserve it. You deserve to be treated like an emperor-which is why I've reserved only the best spa treatment for you. You have an appointment with the hotel's spa tomorrow afternoon. I left tickets for Cirque du Soleil if you want to watch it, after your appointment. I heard those shows are not only the greatest shows in Vegas, but on Earth. I hope the show's suitable for an emperor. And take anyone you want. There are two tickets.

I only want you. I want nothing more than your smile, your satisfaction and happiness. If you are all right, I am at peace. If Vegas is treating you well, I am all right. You are my air, my happiness and pride. You are my Eiri, and I adore you. I love you just as the flowers love air, forever thankful for the nourishment air gives. I worship you just as artists worship monuments, forever in awe of their glory.

I love you, and only want your smile. Your happiness is my box of Valentine candy.

Enjoy. If you want to come home with me, I'll be in your lobby Friday afternoon. I'll wait two hours. When the clock strikes three, and if you aren't with me, then I'll know. I'll know you wish to seek happiness elsewhere, and I won't mind. I'll go on loving you, no matter what.

I'll go on loving you, because you are my air.

-Kitty

"Why didn't he pick midnight? This damn city never sleeps anyway."

He shoved the beautifully written letter into his pocket, determined to keep it close. After all, it was from Shuichi-and it was the only treasure he had seen from Shuichi, aside from the plane ticket to Vegas. He hadn't given 'Kitty' his Valentine's gift, but the pink furball saw fit to give up his gift of relaxation-right after a brutal argument. He threw a temper tantrum over his latest novel, Shuichi threw a fit over the novelist's time management problems-

Ah. If he only he wasn't programmed to be a bastard. He tried to give the JetBlue ticket back to Kitty, but Kitty refused to take it back. It was his apology, the pink kitten explained, for ruining the composition of a masterpiece. Taking absolutely no one with him, the novelist packed a few belongings and reluctantly went on his way.

Shuichi buried himself in Bad Luck business, desperately trying to keep his mind off Eiri Yuki. Thinking of Eiri, even for a moment, would result in a breakdown. The blonde writer knew that well, but did not enjoy acknowledging the fact. The singer's distress, the lush bouquet of white roses on his windowsill, and the letter sent darts straight into his heart.

He already knew his answer to the lyricist's letter. He wished Shuichi had never given him the ticket, let alone the letter. He wanted nothing more than Shuichi's happiness-which would surely come after a lengthy explanation of a sourpuss behavior.

Yes. It was time. Time to come clean. Shuichi's Valentine present would be the truth-and possibly something small. Golden too. Maybe complimented by little Mickey Mouse ears. It would slip right onto his finger, perfectly made for those innocent, sugary sweet hands. It would-

-only happen if he got up the nerve. After all, he still had to bypass an explanation.

And he still shouldn't have accepted the ticket.

Damn idiot. Just had to send me away, didn't you? I don't need any time to think! I already know what I want, you little brat, and it's YOU! I was just too busy being a-

With a heavy groan, Eiri buried his face into one of his many plush pillows. Kicking his feet with exaggerated, loud whimpers, he reflected on how the room would've been much prettier if a certain kitten had been there. "Why did I go through with this?" he moaned, eyes glistening with anguish.

"Freakin' idiot blocked my number, won't even..."

I need you. You're the only Valentine present I need. You're all I'll ever need.

I just have some explaining to do-and six more days to hold out...

Until I can find you.

Eiri Yuki/Shuichi Shindou. After a particularly horrible argument, Shuichi sends Eiri off to the Bellagio in Las Vegas-for Valentine's Day! He left our troubled blonde novelist a letter, but the words of his heart do not please Eiri at all.

That was absolutely wonderful. I loved it, and it practically tore my heart out. I just wanted to thank you for putting such a work of art out there for us hopeless romantics to devour. I really hope to see a sequel to this.
